 Uniform Dress Code Policy (2009-10)

The easiest solution for administration is to require all students to be measured for uniforms ordered from a catalog, as that would very simply eliminate most problems concerning dress. This policy represents a more creative approach- a collaborative effort between staff, parents and students, with several things in mind, two in particular.

First and foremost, dress must be modest and professional.

It would be nice to have complete confidence in every teenagers desire to dress modestly, professionally, and in a manner that represents and honors their family, school and God. However, we all know this is not always a matter close to the teenage heart. With that in mind, this policy outlines the options and defines what acceptable dress is and is not. Our desire is that dress, along these lines, will become a matter of heart and that ultimately students will desire to represent themselves well, at all times, without compulsion.

Second, the dress code was designed to be flexible in the non-essentials, such as color options, and cost-effective regarding where clothing that is clearly suitable and properly-fitted is purchased.

The team has designed a policy that combines the non-negotiables of modest, professional appearance, with a large variety of mix and match options that reduce to a minimum the potential for gray areas. We simply ask that families and students purchase and wear only clothing that clearly meets the guidelines, so that we can focus our energy to educate and inspire rather than to battle over attire.

On regular school days students may select from any of the "Class B" options except PE clothing. For designated special occasions, students will be asked to dress more formally. (See Special Occasion attire below.)

*** A general guideline is that school clothing must be essentially the same as the items pictured and described, regardless of where they are purchased.
