Cornerstone Prep is Committed to Research Based Academic Excellence

  • Emphasis is on rigor, relevance, relationships and DYNAMIC qualified staff- the hallmarks of successful schools, primarily found in smaller schools with smaller classrooms.  CP's unique academic environment maximizes results- for above average college-bound students as well as for those who have past performance that was below grade level.  (See student comments)
  • Students love our college-style block scheduling. (See comments)
  • Smaller sized traditional classrooms maximize the benefits of teacher-student interaction.
  • Many classes incorporate classical instructional methods that have been proven highly effective in producing critical thinking scholars who have mastered the tools of learning, which can then be applied to any course of study.

Fruits of their labor included...

  • Cornerstone Prep writing lab classes each wrote and presented "Psalms of Praise" in Chapel, at the Christmas Program and for the seniors of the Brookwood Adult Day Care Center.
  • 50% of Cornerstone Prep students were recognized as "outstanding" writers in the Association of Christian Schools International's Creative Writing Competition for the Mid-Atlantic District.  The district includes about 400 member schools serving more than 60,000 students in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland and the District of Columbia.  These CP students represented 17.3% of all superior entries, which were published in a collection of the region's best works.
  • 50% of CP students were judged "excellent" and 50% "superior" in the ACSI Speech Meet.  ACSI schools from southwestern PA participated in the event, with entries scored by a panel of independent judges.  In addition to a challenging language arts curriculum, Cornerstone Prep's students participate in writing lab, journalism and speech courses.

Why Christian education for high school is critical- A founder's view- click here!

Parents of teens have many concerns in today's competitive world.  For Christians, these questions go far beyond whether the child will be academically prepared for college.  Recent research claims that most Christian teens abandon their faith practices shortly after high school, and that those who leave private Christian or parochial schools younger do not fare better.

 1.  "No excuse" results-

Documented, research-based, time-tested results back up Cornerstone Prep's ambitious mission to equip critical thinking scholars mind, body and soul.  Everything "Christian" must be about the passionate pursuit of excellence- in academics, athletics, fine arts, spiritual growth and develoment- Cornerstone Prep is a holistic liberal arts education.

2.  Christian worldview and daily discipleship-

Christian teachers and administrators present the complete truth in every subject area, which is impossible in public, charter and public cyber-charter schools.  Jesus hand-picked his disciples, teaching and mentoring them daily for three years before He sent them out into the world... and Jesus was GOD!  It is no surprise that 14-year-olds are not yet adequately prepared for the battles they will face with teachers and peers when immersed in the culture.  Cornerstone Prep is a school of discipleship,  committed to graduate every student spiritually and socially mature, articulate defenders of their faith and principles, better prepared for the attacks they will face in college and the world.

3.  Life-changing relationships-

Students, staff and parents form meaningful lifelong relationships in smaller classrooms and a smaller school where all of the wisdom of scripture is modeled on a daily basis, including how to form and manage relationships. We understand that for most students, this is their greatest interest at this age.  We are committed to maintain a safe environment of mission-appropriate students, who are willing to work hard, respect staff and each other and support a standard of behavior that is moral and uplifting to the group.

4.  Athletic and co-curricular activities-

Cornerstone Prep is serious about fine arts, missions and service, internships and athletics- with a strong plan for steady growth.  Our vision is to grow steadily in the quality and scope of our own programs, while offering complete access to sports we aren't ready to sponsor via cooperative sponsorships with local high schools.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:19,20 NASB

Commencement of the Class of 2010 and

Presentation of Awards for All Grade Levels

Cornerstone Prep commencement speakers relax after the big event!

The final all-school event of the 2009-10 school year was held on Friday evening, June 4 at 7:00 PM.  The first graduation ceremony for Cornerstone Prep, the Class of 2010, was a memorable one with passionate speeces delivered by graduates Paige Goozdich and Anthony Cashdollar, who spoke of overcoming life's challenges and the triumphs of their senior year at Cornerstone Prep as they grew in Christ. Foreign exchange student Marissa Castrellon also delivered a powerful testimony of how this exchange experience has impacted her life in so many unexpected ways!  Students of all grade levels were commended for their academic, athletic and other significant achievements.  Mr. Dave Good, CPA, delivered an inspirational keynote address, challenging students and all present to stay focused on the priorities of living as disciples of Christ in all that we do!

Mrs. Megles' Home-Ec Class Honored Their Moms for Mothers Day with a First Class Dinner Event!

Sophomores and Juniors Toured Grove City College

spending the day with their "pen pals" as part of a tradition established by Dr. Roger Mackey for his education majors to get to know students from private Christian urban schools and introduce them to GCC.  The day concluded with fun and games and a picnic attended by all.

Freshmen stayed "home" and worked on a service project for soldiers wounded in combat, then treated themselves (in the tradition of our Spanish class) to lunch at a nearby Mexican restaurant!

CP Track Team Concludes Introductory Season

Nine students, Coached by Mrs. Cindi McCall and Mr. Brandon McCall,  participated in a variety of track and field events this spring, inspired to train for even greater success next year. CP participated in meets hosted by Robinson Township Christian School and the NCSAA (National Christian School Athletic Association).

Introducing Cornerstone Prep's First Foreign Exchange Student- Marissa Costrellon from Panama

If you were at Commencement, you may have had the chance to meet the latest addition to our Cornerstone Prep family. Marissa graduated from a private high school in Panama, then traveled here primarily to gain the experience of attending an English speaking school.  She resides with the Gaffney family until the end of summer, and has been a wonderful blessing to our students, staff and school. Marissa participated on our track team, and performed at the Fine Arts Expo. She will be sadly missed by all!

Cornerstone Prep is in the Grove City College News!

Other Missions, Ministry & Awareness Activities

  • Students received clothing donations and assembled outfits for women and children housed in shelters for Thanksgiving.

  • CP students were blessed with an opportunity to interact with the Children of the World's International Children's Choir, composed of orphaned and disadvantaged children from nations of Africa, Guatemala and others. The children were on tour throughout the area to raise awareness for the causes of poverty, AIDS and orphans.

  • Students also volunteered to support special needs students with autism for a therapeutic riding experience at Horse & Soul Farm in Houston, PA.  This trip proved to be mutually beneficial for both Cornerstone Prep and students from the Mon Valley School.  Pictured above are two CP students preparing a pony for its' special riders.

  • CP committed to provide hospitality to homeless families hosted by Peters Creek Church as part of the Interfaith Hospitality Network. Students will assist with dinner, provide homework help and play games with the children.  40% of the people served by IHN are under six years old!  CP families are encouraged to participate if able by providing a meal or desert, or helping drive the families to the Washington City Mission in the morning or back to the church for dinner.

Other opportunities include:

  • Students volunteer to provide activities and assistance for seniors at Easter Seals Brookwood Adult Day Care center.
  • Volumes of donated coats were processed by students at Washington Christian Outreach.
  • Bulk mailing service projects provided for a business and a local church as a "thank you" for making donations to CP.
  • Attended the 2009 March for Life in Washington D.C.
