School Choice Expo- Held at New Location on May 28- To Be Repeated Soon- Stay Tuned for Upcoming Dates
Parents of teens have many concerns in today's competitive world. For Christians, these questions go far beyond whether the child will be academically prepared for college. Recent research claims that most Christian teens abandon their faith practices shortly after high school, and that those who leave private Christian or parochial schools younger do not fare better. Recent and pending liberal legislative changes leave parents more concerned than ever about trusting public schools with the vital task of educating their children, especially because "values education" is often designed and taught by teachers with such conflicting worldviews and values. Cornerstone Prep was designed to be the ideal transitional solution for parents (homeschool, Christian school or other) who believe that a strong Biblical worldview will better equip their teens to make wiser decisions now, and when they step onto a college campus. The School Choice Expo addresses the issues (including tuition and availability of scholarships) and how Christian students benefit from Cornerstone Prep's unique academic environment.
Cornerstone Prep Students Comprised 17.3% of "Superior" High School Writers in the ACSI Mid-Atlantic Region Four Cornerstone Prep students' entries were judged as "Superior" in ACSI's local Creative Writing Festival. Their entries were forwarded on for regional judging, and again ranked as superior. Superior works have been published in a collection with other entries selected as the regions best for 2008-09. Students who achieved this distinctive honor will receive a complimentary copy of the book, and are well on their way to writing success in college and beyond. Congratulations to Rebecca Good, Jennifer Koval, Carly Moorehead, and Anne Page! The Mid-Atlantic District includes about 400 member schools serving more than 60,000 students in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland and the District of Columbia, making this a distinctive honor for our students.
PA Business Tax Credit Scholarship Informational Meeting and Supporter Appreciation Breakfast Businesses who sponsored student scholarships for 2008-09 via the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program were honored at this first annual event held on May 21. Students greeted and served representatives from TJ&S Insurance, The Swanson Group and ProMark Industries. Cindi McCall announced Cornerstone Prep's goal to raise $500,000 for 2009-10, which will provide scholarships for Cornerstone Prep students and would reach out to younger students who already attend or would attend K-8 Christian schools, but require financial support to remain through high school. David Hegedus, Director of the scholarship organization operated by the Association of Christian Schools International, and David Good, a local CPA who has extensive personal experience with EITC via clients, both offered valuable information and encouragement for Pennsylvania business operators to maximize the benefits of this program to students, schools and individual taxpayers. The mother of two newer students reported significant positive changes in her children since transferring to Cornerstone Prep from cyber school. She testified that this opportunity would never have been available to them without the scholarship support they receive, and that she can't wait for her two younger children to be able to attend.
Peterson's Student Edge Offers Homework Help In addition to the other benefits of free Peterson online services (see below), Cornerstone Prep students can now access free online homework help, which may save families $ on tutoring!
Students Rated "Superior" in ACSI Speech Meet 50% of CP students were judged "excellent" and 50% "superior" in the ACSI Speech Meet. ACSI non-public schools from southwestern PA participated in the event, with entries scored by a panel of independent judges. Congratulations are due the students and their veteran language arts instructor, Mrs. Claire Megles, for such excellent work. 100% student participation in these events is highly unique for any school, and highly commendable! In addition to a challenging language arts curriculum, Cornerstone Prep's freshmen students participate in writing lab, journalism and speech courses.

"Beyond Reasonable Doubt" Clarified at Prime Stage Theater's Production of Twelve Angry Men At Cornerstone Prep, we believe that hard work reaps rewards. Attending Twelve Angry Men was one of those special rewards. Students thoroughly enjoyed the show, which was followed by sweets at Page's Dairy Mart in South Side. Chuck Page, owner, treated students to ice cream creations of their choice. Students also learned about the history of the Page family business.

| 1. "No excuse" results- Documented, research-based, time-tested results back up Cornerstone Prep's ambitious mission to equip critical thinking scholars mind, body and soul. Everything "Christian" must be about the passionate pursuit of excellence- in academics, athletics, fine arts, spiritual growth and develoment- Cornerstone Prep is a holistic liberal arts education. 2. Christian worldview and daily discipleship- Christian teachers and administrators present the complete truth in every subject area, which is impossible in public, charter and public cyber-charter schools. Jesus hand-picked his disciples, teaching and mentoring them daily for three years before He sent them out into the world... and Jesus was GOD! It is no surprise that 14-year-olds are not yet adequately prepared for the battles they will face with teachers and peers when immersed in the culture. Cornerstone Prep is a school of discipleship, committed to graduate every student spiritually and socially mature, articulate defenders of their faith and principles, better prepared for the attacks they will face in college and the world. 3. Life-changing relationships- Students, staff and parents form meaningful lifelong relationships in smaller classrooms and a smaller school where all of the wisdom of scripture is modeled on a daily basis, including how to form and manage relationships. We understand that for most students, this is their greatest interest at this age. We are committed to maintain a safe environment of mission-appropriate students, who are willing to work hard, respect staff and each other and support a standard of behavior that is moral and uplifting to the group. 4. Athletic and co-curricular activities- Cornerstone Prep is serious about fine arts, missions and service, internships and athletics- with a strong plan for steady growth. Our vision is to grow steadily in the quality and scope of our own programs, while offering complete access to sports we aren't ready to sponsor via cooperative sponsorships with local high schools.
